Notes on Joining Groups

Members should feel free to approach the Leader of any Group that they wish to join. The following notes explain how the Carterton U3A groups are managed.

If a vacancy exists, the group leader will invite you to the next meeting of the group.

If there are no vacancies, group leaders will maintain a waiting list for the group and contact you in due course.

If it is desirable to split an existing group into two or more groups (because of the number of active and prospective members) group leaders will help to facilitate the process, so that you can join a group as soon as practicable.

To prevent groups from being ‘blocked’ by any inactive members, group leaders will contact such members to establish whether they wish to continue, and decide whether their place in the group should be treated as a vacancy. Inactivity is a matter of judgement and circumstances: non-attendance for one month may apply to some groups; six months to others. Group leaders will review all aspects of their group’s activity on a regular basis (say once a year) and agree with the members of the group any changes to its operation. If you are on a waiting list and wish to have your name removed, please notify the relevant group leader/coordinator or the Groups Secretary (as appropriate) so that they can update the waiting list.

Please do not feel shy about contacting group leaders: they will welcome an approach from you.
