On Tuesday 9th March, we held our first informal Coffee Morning at the Town Hall.  About 15 members met for a chat and a drink. It’s an opportunity for new and established members to get to know each other and ask any questions about U3A or its various groups… or just solve the world’s problems!!  Next coffee morning,

3 August 2010 from 10am to 1130am cost £1.

There is a change of venue from the Town Hall to Rosemary's house:

All U3A members welcome.

Day Trip to Loseley House and Gardens

9th June 2010

Apart from a slow start to the day and a very slow end to the day we had a most enjoyable outing with much better weather than was expected.

We arrived at Loseley Park where we were met by a meeter/greeter.  We were all given maps and directed to the Tithe Barn where tea, coffee and biscuits awaited us.

We split into two groups to tour the house and then we were free to explore the gardens and have lunch in the restaurant or picnic by the lake or other secluded areas.

Loseley House was built in the 1560s and since the beginning of the 16th century, the More-Molyneux family have been welcoming guests to the idyllic Loseley Park.

During the house tour we saw many fine portraits and other works of art, furniture from the 16th century and special features such as panelling from Henry VIII’s Nonsuch Palace.

Elizabeth I visited Loseley on 4 occasions and we saw the bedroom in which she chose to stay.

We were enlightened of the ancestry of the More-Molyneux family and their connections with royalty and figures such as Sir Thomas More and the poet John Donne

The walled garden was based on a design by Gertrude Jekyll and was divided into many different sections.

The moat and border were enhanced by water flora and fauna and a beautiful herbaceous border.

Near to the garden entrance and situated next to the majestic cedar of Labanon, is a mulberry tree which is reputed to have been planted by Queen Elizabeth I.

Before returning to our coach many of us tried the delicious ice cream which is made at Loseley.

Pam Howard

What a lovely day out at Loseley Estate

We arrived there right on time despite departing late

The welcome, house and ice cream were quite without a fault

and everyone was happy with the purchases they bought

The guide around the house was both informative and interesting

The garden well stocked and bright must take much maintaining

The view of geese and lake made such a peaceful view

So thank you Pam for your wise choice of venue

You made the trip so organised

Hope our big thanks are a surprise.

Thank you Pam
